이번에는 공적인 자리에서 명함을 요청하고, 주고, 받는 법에 대해서 배워보겠습니다. 

In this lesson, you will learn how to ask for, give, and accept a business card at professional events. 

미국에서는 명함을 어떻게 교환할까요? 

How do we exchange business cards in the U.S.? 

우리 나라에서 명함 교환하는 것과는 사뭇 다릅니다. 

It might be very different from how cards are exchanged in our country. 

적절한 방법으로 명함 교환하는 법에 대한 가이드라인을 살펴보죠. 

Here are some guidelines that will help you exchange cards in an appropriate way. 

사례를 들어 설명드리겠습니다. 

A : So where are you from? 

어디서 오셨어요? 

B : Seattle. 

시애틀이요. 

A : Seattle. I'm going there on business next month. 

시애틀이군요. 전 다음달에 시애틀로 출장가요. 

B : Really? Why don't we get together for coffee?

그래요? 오시면 함께 커피 한잔 하는게 어때요?

A : Great. Is there a way to contact you?

좋아요. 당신 연락은 어떻게 하죠? 

B : Why don't I give you my card? 

명함 드릴까요?

A : Perfect. 

좋아요

B : There you go. 

여기 있습니다. 

A : Thank you very much. Is this a good phone number to call you at? 

감사합니다. 전화드려도 되나요?

B : Actually, email would be better.

사실, 이메일이 더 좋습니다. 

A : Excellent. 

알겠습니다. 

B : And do you have a card?

명함 있으세요? 

A : I do.

네 있어요.  

A : Here you go.

여기 있습니다. 

B : Your office isn't too far from us.

사무실에 제 사무실에서 멀지 않군요. 

A : Perfect.

좋네요.  

자연스럽게 명함 나누는 모습을 발견하셨나요? ^^ 

그럼 이제 명함 주고 받는 가이드라인에 대해서 말씀드리겠습니다. 

Now let me tell you some guidelines for giving and accepting business cards. 

미국에서는 대화 시작 시 바로 명함 교환하는 게 흔하진 않습니다. 

In the U.S. it is not so common to exchange business cards right at the start of a conversation. 

대화 끝날 즈음에 주로 명함 교환을 합니다. 

We often do it near the end of the conversation. 

명함을 주기 전에 상대방이 먼저 여러분의 명함을 요청할 때까지 기다리세요.

Wait until the other person asks for your card before giving it. 

상대방에게 연락을 취할 수 있는 가장 좋은 방법을 물어봄으로써 명함 교환하는 기회를 만들 수도 있습니다. 

You can also create an opportunity to exchange cards by asking the other person about the best way to contact him or her. 

만약 여러분이 상대방에게 정말 명함을 주고자 할 때에는, 명함을 드려도 되나요 라며 동의를 구할 수도 있습니다 .

If you really want to give your card to someone, you can ask permission : may I give you my card? 

지갑보다는 명함집에 명함을 보관하세요. 

Keep your cards in a cards case rather than in a wallet. 

미국에서는 상대방에서 명함을 어느 손으로 줘도 상관없습니다. 

You can give your card to the other person with either hand. 

상대방이 읽을 수 있도록 명함을 주세요. 

Give the card so that the other person can read it. 

명함 받을 땐, 여러분의 명함집에 넣기 전에 잠시 상대방 명함을 바라보세요. 그리고 필요 시 코멘트를 남길 수도 있습니다. 

When you accept the card, look at it for a moment before putting it in your case. You can make a comment if appropriate. 

명함 받으면, 여러분의 명함도 교환하세요. 

If you receive a card, offer your card in exchange. 

만약 상대방이 명함을 요청했을 때 여러분이 명함을 가지고 있지 않다면 어떻게 할까요? 

What do you do if you don't have a business card, when someone asks for it?

정말 난감한 경우죠?  

이럴 땐 아래 예시와 같이 대처할 수 있습니다. 

A : Here's one of my business cards. Please feel free to reach out to me in Seattle.

여기 제 명함입니다. 시애틀에서 제게 언제든지 연락주세요. 

B : Thanks, I will.

감사합니다. 연락드릴께요.  

A : And do you have a business card. 

그런데 명함있으세요?

B : Sorry, actually I don't at the moment. I'm getting some new ones printed but they weren't ready before I came. 

죄송해요. 지금 명함이 없어요. 명함 새걸 주문해놨는데, 여기 오기전에 아직 새 명함이 안만들어졌어요. 

A : That's okay. How about you write your information on the back of one of these business cards. 

괜찮아요. 이 명함 뒷면에 귀하의 정보를 적어주시는 건 어때요? 

라고 멋지게 말하면 센스있는 사람이 되겠죠? ^^
